Then he opened a small school of painting in Venice, but his activity often took him to travel to Naples. The turning point of Fausto Zonaro's career, however, took place in 1891 when, together with Elisabetta Pante, his ex-student in Venice, now his partner, he decided to venture into the East, in the then Constantinople.
Here, little by little, he manages to become known in aristocratic circles, obtaining increasingly important orders until, in 1896, he was appointed "court painter" thanks to the good offices of the Russian ambassador, for whom he made some paintings and gifts for the sultan the work The imperial regiment of Ertugrul on the Galata bridge, immediately acquired by them. The Sultan orders a series of other works in Zonaro, in particular a series of paintings on the epic of Muhammad II
Fausto Zonaro, the last painter of the imperial court of Constantinople, remained in the city of gold until 1909, when he returned to Italy after the coup that deposed Sultan Abdul-Hamid. He then settled in Sanremo and continued to paint small views. He continued to paint until his death in 1929.
Many of Fausto Zonaro's works are still preserved in the most important museums in Istanbul, in the Imperial Palace of Dolmabahce and in the Military Museum. Internationally recognized artist with excellent prices.
